Jubilee Year 2025 : Pilgrims of Hope

Jubilee Year 2025 : Pilgrims of Hope

Every 25 years, the Catholic Church holds a Jubilee Year. All members of the global Church family are called to participate in this Holy Year. It is a time to grow in our faith and prayer life. A time too to re-establish a proper relationship with God, with one another, and with all of creation.

The theme for 2025 is 'Pilgrims of Hope' and starts on 24th December 2024 with the opening of the Holy Door in Rome. The Jubilee Year will formally conclude in Rome on the Solemnity of Epiphany, 6 January 2026.

Pope Francis has asked us to be signs of hope for others, by putting Catholic Social Teaching into action through caring for our common home, supporting our sisters and brothers who are experiencing war, hunger or poverty.

Key aspects of a Jubilee Year include how we treat one another and how we live out the mission.  Jesus states in Luke 4: 16 -21:

And he came up to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read. And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written:

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,

    because he has anointed me

to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives

and recovering of sight to the blind,

to set at liberty those who are oppressed free,

to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.”

And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the      eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. And he began to say to them, “Today    this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”
